Three pets, three sets of records, and the move that started Wali

Cali, Luna, and Ellie, the three pets behind Wali, with the Wali wordmark

Wali is named after Cali, my sweet girl who I call Cali Wali. She is the reason any of this exists. But the moment I knew I had to build it came when I moved my three girls, Cali, Luna, and Ellie, across the country.

Moving states is stressful on its own. Add three fur babies to the mix and it multiplies, especially when there is no single place to pull up everything a new vet or boarding facility needs to know.

Right before we moved, Cali had a benign tumor removed. Continuing her care mattered, and so did establishing a new vet quickly, especially given her history of seizure-like involuntary muscle contractions. I needed her full record in someone's hands fast, not scattered across old emails and photos.

Then there was Ellie, my sun conure. While we lived in temporary housing she needed to go into boarding, which meant making sure she was current on preventative care like a physical exam and disease screening. Every clinic and boarding facility has its own policies, so what they asked for kept changing.

And Luna, our husky, was coming up on her annuals. Just to stay in our temporary housing, she needed proof of all her vaccines.

Getting all of their records sent over so we could establish the right care was a headache. Half of Cali's records came back "missing." For Luna, the only thing I could get was her latest vaccine, not her exam history. Three pets, three different gaps, all at the same time.

What frustrated me most was this: I want to be a pet parent who knows everything about my animals' health, and in that moment all of it felt fragmented and just out of reach. Some records were printed, some were buried in emails, none of it was consistent, and it all ended up stored away in a folder or lost in my camera roll.

That is when the question that would not leave me got louder: why isn't this just a link I can send? Why can't all of my pets' records live in one place that travels with us, so I can share exactly what a vet or boarder needs in seconds?

So I started building Wali. The idea is simple: all of your pet's records in one place, and a way to share them in seconds. Not just vaccines. Exam history, grooming, medications, the details you swear you will remember and then lose. One home for every pet, that moves when you move.

I am building it because I lived this, not because a spreadsheet told me there was a market. Cali, Luna, and Ellie are the whole reason Wali has a name and a purpose. Keeping good records is one of the quiet ways we take care of the animals we love, and that is the part I want to make easy.

This is the first of our stories. I will use this space to share what we are building, what I am learning, and the pets behind it all. If you have ever stood at a counter scrolling for a record you know you saved, you are exactly who I am building this for.

Welcome to Wali. I am really glad you are here.
